Tinubu Approves Full Payment of Super Falcons’ Outstanding Allowances

ABUJA, July 25, 2025 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate and full payment of all outstanding allowances owed to players and officials of the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, in a move aimed at boosting morale and reinforcing the administration’s commitment to sports development.

The approval was confirmed by officials in the Presidency on Wednesday, following reports of delayed entitlements dating back to the team’s participation in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and other recent international competitions. The payment is expected to cover match bonuses, camp allowances, and other financial obligations owed to the team.

President Tinubu, who has repeatedly emphasized the importance of sports in national unity and youth empowerment, directed the Ministry of Sports Development to ensure prompt disbursement through verified channels, adding that no athlete representing Nigeria should be denied their rightful entitlements.

The Super Falcons, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most successful women’s football teams, have brought pride to the nation through numerous continental titles and strong global performances. The move to clear their outstanding dues is expected to improve team motivation ahead of upcoming qualifiers and international engagements.

This development comes amid growing calls for institutional reforms and better welfare for Nigerian athletes, especially women in sports, whose achievements have often been overshadowed by logistical and administrative challenges.
