Tragedy Strikes at Otedola Bridge: Multiple Vehicles Involved in Major Accident

In a devastating incident that occurred earlier today at the notorious Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, multiple vehicles were involved in a serious collision resulting in casualties and significant traffic disruption, KIIN360 reports.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described a chaotic situation as emergency responders worked tirelessly to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage. The accident, which reportedly happened during the morning rush hour, involved at least five vehicles including a commercial bus and two private cars.
“I was just a few cars behind when it happened. There was a loud crash and then I saw a vehicle overturn,” said Adebayo Olatunji, a commuter who witnessed the incident. “People immediately rushed out of their vehicles to help before emergency services arrived.”
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) personnel were promptly deployed to the scene, working alongside Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials to manage the situation. Medical personnel from nearby hospitals were also on ground to provide immediate care to the injured.

The FRSC Sector Commander for Lagos confirmed the incident but stated that the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that a combination of over-speeding and brake failure of one of the larger vehicles may have triggered the chain collision.

This location has been a recurring accident hotspot despite multiple safety interventions by the government. The Otedola Bridge, a major link on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has witnessed numerous tragic incidents over the years, raising concerns about road safety measures in the area.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as rescue and recovery operations continue. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has implemented diversions to ease the resulting gridlock, directing vehicles to navigate through Ojota and connecting routes.
