Turning Trash Into Treasure: Women’s Conference Highlights Sustainability

The Ogun Zone 3 Biennial Zonal Women Conference took center stage with a powerful second lecture delivered by Alhaja Fatimoh Abdulsalam of the Science Laboratory Technology Department, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. Speaking on the topic “Sustainable Living Through Eco-Friendly Practices,” Alhaja Abdulsalam called on women to adopt environmentally conscious lifestyles that protect and preserve the ecosystem.

In her lecture, Alhaja Abdulsalam emphasized the critical role women play in promoting sustainability within their homes, communities, and workplaces. She outlined practical eco-friendly measures, including reducing waste, recycling, conserving energy, and supporting green innovations. She mentioned her students’ project, where they successfully generated ethanol from waste paper, a clear demonstration of how waste materials can be transformed into valuable resources.

The event was further graced by a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele who commended the organizers and participants for their commitment to sustainable development. Hon. Sikirat Ajibola re-affirmed the government’s readiness to support initiatives that empower women and promote environmental stewardship across the state.

The conference continues to serve as a vibrant platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration among women from across Ogun Zone 3, inspiring them to become active agents of change in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.
