UTME Glitch: LASU Declares Support for JAMB Registrar, Calls Prof. Oloyede a Beacon of Integrity

Lagos, May 15, 2025 — Lagos State University (LASU) has declared its full support for Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in the wake of the recent 2025 UTME setback that invalidated results for nearly 380,000 candidates due to technical failures.

In a strongly worded press release signed by the institution’s Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of Information and Public Relations, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, LASU praised Prof. Oloyede for his “courage and humility” in taking full responsibility for the examination glitch. The university described the press conference where Oloyede accepted responsibility as an act of “exceptional leadership” uncommon in Nigeria’s public space.

“Prof. Oloyede remains a beacon of integrity, and LASU stands with him at this time,” the statement read. “Rather than shifting blame, he ordered an immediate retake for all affected candidates, restoring confidence in the process.”

LASU noted that since assuming office in 2016, Prof. Oloyede has carried out significant reforms that have bolstered JAMB’s credibility, transparency, and public trust. The university emphasized that it has directly benefitted from these reforms, citing smoother admission processes and the intake of better-qualified students.

The institution also highlighted Oloyede’s long-standing track record of integrity, dating back to his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin.

“Supporting leaders who demonstrate accountability, rather than condemning them for isolated shortcomings, is essential for Nigeria’s progress,” the university urged.

The release concluded with a call for unity in the education sector and reaffirmed LASU’s confidence in JAMB’s leadership, praying for continued progress in Nigeria’s educational system.
