VP Shettima Arrives in London to Escort Buhari’s Remains Back to Nigeria

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in London following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima is in the United Kingdom to lead the Federal Government delegation tasked with accompanying the late former president’s remains back to Nigeria.

The Vice President is joined by the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, in what is being described as a solemn national duty to honour the late statesman.

According to presidency sources, the late President Buhari died earlier this week in London, where he had been residing after leaving office in 2023. His death marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s most influential political and military figures.

President Tinubu, in a statement released shortly after the news broke, expressed deep sadness and extended condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians. He described Buhari as a patriot who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.

Plans are currently underway to give the former leader a state funeral in accordance with national honours. Official details regarding the funeral arrangements and the return of his body are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Vice President Shettima’s trip underscores the gravity of the national loss and reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring a dignified farewell for Nigeria’s former Head of State.
