WAEC Releases 2025 WASSCE Results for School Candidates

LAGOS, August 4, 2025 — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates across Nigeria.

This announcement was made on Monday by the Head of Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, during a press briefing held at WAEC’s national headquarters in Yaba, Lagos. According to him, a total of 1,842,464 candidates from 25,098 secondary schools across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory sat for the examination, which took place between May 6 and June 21, 2025.

Dr. Dangut disclosed that 79.84% of the candidates obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, marking a slight improvement over the previous year’s 76.36%. He added that results of 96.6% of candidates have been fully processed and released, while the remaining are still being processed due to errors traceable to students and schools.

However, WAEC noted that the results of 262,803 candidates are being withheld due to various reported cases of examination malpractice, including impersonation and collusion. These cases are currently under investigation, and decisions will be communicated in due course.

Candidates can access their results online through the WAEC Result Checker portal at www.waecdirect.org by using their examination numbers and the result checker PIN. WAEC also advised candidates and schools to make use of the WAEC digital certificate platform for faster and safer access to academic records.

The Council commended candidates, teachers, and examination officials for their cooperation and resilience throughout the examination process, despite economic and logistic challenges.

Parents, school authorities, and education stakeholders have begun reviewing the outcome as the results are expected to influence student placements into higher institutions and further shape the national educational outlook for the year.
