The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily shut down its online result checker portal, just days after releasing the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates. The council cited unexpected technical issues as the reason behind the move.
In a brief statement issued on Wednesday, WAEC said the development became necessary to address access problems and server disruptions that several candidates and schools had reported since the results went live. The examination body assured the public that its technical team is actively working to resolve the issues and restore full access as quickly as possible.
Candidates and schools across Nigeria had earlier celebrated the prompt release of the results, but many were soon left frustrated as repeated attempts to access the portal yielded error messages or failed connections.
WAEC appealed for patience, adding that an official update would be communicated once the platform is back online. The council reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, accuracy, and accessibility in its examination services.
Over 1.7 million candidates sat for the 2025 WASSCE nationwide.
