World Patient Safety Day 2025: Lagos Government Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Children

The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children as part of activities marking the 2025 World Patient Safety Day.

Speaking during a commemorative event in Ikeja, Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said this year’s theme, “Child Safety: A Shared Responsibility,” underscores the need for collective action to safeguard children in hospitals, schools, and communities.

He noted that Lagos has implemented several child-focused health initiatives, including enhanced immunisation drives, improved neonatal care services, and strict enforcement of safety standards across health facilities. The state has also intensified training for healthcare workers to strengthen child protection measures and reduce avoidable risks.

Abayomi stressed that patient safety, particularly for children, goes beyond hospitals, calling on parents, guardians, educators, and community leaders to play active roles in protecting young lives.

The Lagos State Government assured residents that it will continue to invest in quality healthcare delivery, child-friendly policies, and awareness campaigns that promote safety culture at all levels.

World Patient Safety Day, marked globally on September 17, was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to draw attention to the importance of safe medical practices and the need to prevent harm in healthcare systems.
