World’s Tallest Woman Pays for 6 Plane Seats to Fly Lying Down

Istanbul, Turkey – June 11, 2025

The world’s tallest living woman, Rumeysa Gelgi of Turkey, has revealed that she must book six airplane seats to travel comfortably due to her extraordinary height.

Gelgi, who stands at 7 feet 0.7 inches (215.16 cm), holds the Guinness World Record as the tallest woman alive. Her condition, Weaver syndrome, a rare genetic disorder causing rapid growth — has made it impossible for her to sit upright on standard airline seats during long-haul flights.

In an interview with local media, Gelgi explained that airlines must accommodate her by removing multiple rows to create space for her to lie down. The arrangement requires purchasing the equivalent of six economy class seats and pre-arranging with airline personnel for customized onboard care.

Despite the high cost and logistical challenges, Gelgi remains optimistic and grateful for the support she receives during air travel.

“My height is not a hindrance; it’s part of my uniqueness,” Gelgi said. “It may be difficult, but it’s worth it to see the world and inspire others who live with rare conditions.”

Her story continues to draw global attention, not only for the physical realities of her travel but also for her advocacy for inclusivity and awareness about rare diseases.
