Lagos, July 9, 2025
YouTube has announced a major policy shift set to take effect from July 15, 2025, that will see content creators uploading repetitive or low-effort videos demonetised, as part of its effort to promote originality and improve viewer experience on the platform.
The company made the announcement in an official update to its YouTube Partner Program (YPP) guidelines, warning that creators who depend on duplicated, recycled, or mass-produced content, such as recitations, text-to-speech compilations, or auto-generated videos, may lose access to advertising revenue and other monetisation benefits.
“YouTube is taking this step to ensure that authentic, creative voices are recognised and rewarded,” the platform stated. “The update is designed to protect the integrity of the platform and encourage the creation of meaningful, original content.”
Affected channels will be reviewed and, if found in violation, could face temporary or permanent suspension from monetisation. In contrast, creators who consistently produce unique and high-quality content will receive improved visibility, support, and monetisation opportunities.
The company also advised creators to carefully review their past uploads, and where necessary, remove or update content that may fall under the “repetitive” category. An appeal mechanism will be available for creators who believe their content has been wrongly affected.
This policy marks a new chapter in YouTube’s long-standing effort to clean up its ecosystem, amid growing concerns about the rising volume of generic and AI-generated content on the platform.
Content creators worldwide are now being urged to adapt quickly to the changes or risk losing monetisation privileges starting next week.
