2027: Coalition Against Tinubu’s Re-Election Already Doomed – Shehu Sani Declares

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has dismissed the recently rumoured coalition by opposition political parties aimed at thwarting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, describing it as “dead on arrival.”

Sani, known for his blunt political commentary, made this assertion in a statement issued on Tuesday. According to him, the opposition’s lack of cohesion, trust, and a clear ideological direction renders any proposed alliance against the incumbent president ineffective even before it begins.

He said, “You can’t defeat an incumbent with a coalition rooted in suspicion and selfish ambition. Without a clear agenda, genuine unity, and a leader acceptable across the divide, such a coalition is bound to collapse.”

The former lawmaker argued that while Nigeria’s democracy thrives on competition and alternatives, opposition parties have so far failed to demonstrate the maturity, consistency, and integrity needed to inspire national confidence.

Sani also urged the opposition to move beyond rhetoric and start building credible alternatives based on solid policies, rather than relying solely on emotional sentiments or anti-Tinubu narratives.

His comments come amidst increasing speculation of a grand opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, spurred by recent political alignments and dissatisfaction among some sections of the electorate.

President Bola Tinubu, elected in 2023, is expected to seek a second term, with his administration currently anchored on the “Renewed Hope” agenda — a platform focused on economic recovery, national security, and institutional reforms.
