Tension rose in Akure, the Ondo State capital, as protesters shut down the Governor’s Office at Alagbaka, over the killing of five farmers by armed herdsmen in the last 24 hours. The farmers were shot dead in another invasion by armed herdsmen at Aba Oyinbo, Akure North Local Government Area of the state. The protesters, who were mostly youths and farmers, displayed the corpses of the five victims in front of the Governor’s Office, causing a stir in the area. They demanded justice for the slain farmers and called on the state government to take decisive action against the herdsmen.According to eyewitnesses, the herdsmen attacked the farmers on their farmlands, shooting them dead and destroying their crops. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and fear among residents, who are calling for increased security measures to protect them from further attacks. The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident, stating that the police are investigating the matter. However, she could not confirm the number of people killed.The latest incident has brought to the forefront the ongoing conflict between farmers and herdsmen in the state, with many calling for a lasting solution to the crisis.
