Nigeria’s male U-19 cricket team, the Junior Yellow Greens, suffered their second consecutive defeat in the ongoing 2026 ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup qualifiers in Lagos, losing to Tanzania by 122 runs on Sunday.

The Tanzanians, led by captain Laksh Bakrania’s 44 runs off 79 balls, posted 154 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 47.2 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat. Abdulganiyu Abdullahi took three wickets for Nigeria, but the team’s batting faltered in the second innings.

The Junior Yellow Greens were restricted to a paltry 32 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in just 16.1 overs, with Khalidy Amiri Juma taking four wickets for Tanzania. Laksh Bakrania was named Player of the Match for his three wickets and 11 runs.

The defeat leaves Nigeria at the bottom of the table without a point and a net run rate deficit of -1.320. Tanzania tops the table with four points, ahead of Kenya and Namibia.

The top team at the end of the qualifiers will secure a spot in the 2026 ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup, co-hosted by Namibia and Zimbabwe. The Junior Yellow Greens are seeking their second appearance at the tournament, having made their debut in 2020.
