Verstappen Secures Victory in Japan, Fends Off Norris and Piastri

Max Verstappen has claimed his first Formula 1 victory of the 2025 season at the Japanese Grand Prix, marking his fourth consecutive win at the Suzuka Circuit. The Red Bull driver successfully defended his pole position against a strong challenge from McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Verstappen started strongly, maintaining his lead over Norris and Piastri throughout the race. The key moment came during the pit stops, where Verstappen and Norris pitted together. Norris attempted to pass Verstappen at the pit exit but was forced onto the grass, allowing Verstappen to retain his position. The stewards decided not to investigate the incident, ruling that Norris should have backed off as Verstappen had his car ahead.

Despite Norris and Piastri pushing hard, Verstappen managed his tyres effectively and maintained a gap to secure a 1.423-second victory over Norris. Piastri finished third, just 0.706 seconds behind his teammate. The top six drivers finished in the same order they started, with Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Kimi Antonelli completing the top six.

This win brings Verstappen within one point of Norris in the Drivers’ Championship, setting up an intense battle for the title as the season progresses. The victory also marks a significant milestone for Verstappen, as he extends his winning streak at Suzuka and begins his campaign to retain the World Championship.
