22 Armoured Brigade Triumphs in Kogi’s Inter-Brigade Competition

In a resounding display of military prowess and teamwork, the 22 Armoured Brigade, based in Ilorin, Kogi State, has emerged victorious in the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition.

This prestigious event, held at the 12 Brigade headquarters in Lokoja, brought together six brigades from across the region, including the 4 Brigade Benin, 12 Brigade Lokoja, 32 Artillery Brigade Akure, 42 Engineer Brigade Ede, and 2 Division Garrison Ibadan. The competition, which commenced on April 7, aimed to enhance combat proficiency, leadership, and teamwork among soldiers, reflecting the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professionalization and readiness.

The five-day contest featured a diverse range of military skills, including drills, skill at arms, map reading, combat swimming, endurance/obstacle training, and shooting.

These exercises were designed to test the soldiers’ abilities in challenging environments, ensuring they are well-prepared for future responsibilities. The event was notable for its inclusivity, with female soldiers participating alongside their male counterparts, promoting diversity within the military ranks.

The Chief Judge, Colonel Adeniyi Adebayo, announced the results at the closing ceremony, with the 22 Armoured Brigade securing the top spot with an impressive 430 points. The 12 Brigade followed closely with 400 points, while the 42 Engineer Brigade took third place with 380 points.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major-General Obinna Onubogu, commended the participants for their resilience and professionalism, emphasizing that such competitions are crucial for enhancing operational capacity and combat readiness. He expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his sustained support in providing resources for training activities.

The event was attended by top officials from various security agencies, including the Commander NNS Lugard, Commodore Tamuno Senibo, and representatives from the DSS, Police, NSCDC, FRSC, Immigration, Correctional Service, and Fire Service.

The victory of the 22 Armoured Brigade is a testament to the dedication and hard work of its soldiers, who demonstrated exceptional skills and teamwork throughout the competition.

This achievement not only reflects positively on the brigade but also underscores the broader efforts of the Nigerian Army to enhance its capabilities and readiness in the face of evolving security challenges.
