“Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun Unveils Mascot, Logo, Theme Song for 2025 National Sports Festival”

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has officially unveiled the mascot, logo, and theme song for the much-anticipated 22nd National Sports Festival, now scheduled to take place in the state from May 16 to 30, 2025. The unveiling ceremony, which underscores Ogun’s readiness to host a world-class sporting event, forms part of the state’s broader preparations to welcome over 10,000 athletes and officials from across Nigeria for the festival, popularly known as the Gateway Games.

Governor Abiodun, speaking at the event, emphasized the significance of the festival as a unifying platform for the nation’s youth and a showcase of Ogun State’s commitment to sports development. He noted that the mascot, logo, and theme song are not just symbols, but rallying points for the spirit of competition, unity, and excellence that the National Sports Festival represents. The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities, highlighting the ongoing massive renovation and reconstruction at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, and the Ijeja Sports Centre in Abeokuta, as well as the total overhaul of the Alake Sports Centre.

The festival, which has been postponed twice due to logistical and preparedness challenges, will now run in May 2025, following a decision by the Joint Technical Committee to ensure all venues and logistics meet international standards. The Gateway Games 2025 will feature a Games Village to accommodate all athletes in one location, with the aim of fostering camaraderie and ensuring smooth coordination of events.

Governor Abiodun also used the occasion to highlight the legacy his administration hopes to leave through the festival, envisioning Ogun as a future hub for sports excellence in Nigeria. He expressed optimism that the festival’s branding elements—the mascot, logo, and theme song—will inspire not just athletes but all Nigerians to embrace the values of teamwork, discipline, and national pride.

The unveiling marks a major milestone in Ogun State’s preparations, setting the tone for what is expected to be a memorable and impactful National Sports Festival in 2025
