Stepfather Faces Trial After Impregnating Underage Stepdaughter Three Times, Resulting in Abortions

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court heard harrowing details of how Adewunmi Ajayi allegedly sexually abused his underage stepdaughter repeatedly since 2019, leading to three pregnancies and multiple abortions. The disturbing case came to light when a teacher reported the 15-year-old survivor to the police, accompanied by a referral letter from Alausa. According to the Investigating Police Officer, Aderinto Foluke, the stepfather had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor, with two pregnancies terminated by abortion under the mother’s consent, and a third pregnancy disclosed by the victim out of fear.

The survivor confided that her stepfather drugged her tea to facilitate the assaults, a fact uncovered when her sister noticed residue in the cup. The abuse reportedly began in 2019 and continued despite the mother’s denial when confronted, though she eventually took the girl to hospital for treatment after complaints of stomach pain. The victim expressed her desire to continue her education as a reason for confiding in her teacher.

The case against Adewunmi Ajayi and his wife, Idowu Ajayi, is ongoing, with the police investigation confirming the repeated sexual abuse and the resulting pregnancies. The court proceedings underscore the grave challenges of protecting minors from domestic sexual violence and the tragic consequences of such abuse, including coerced abortions. The prosecution continues to present evidence while the defense cross-examines witnesses, as the legal system seeks justice for the survivor and accountability for the accused.
