Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques Debunks Social Media Claims, Warns Against AI-Generated Misinformation

The General Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah has issued a strong public warning, firmly denying the existence of any official social media accounts belonging to the Imams or Khateebs of the Two Holy Mosques.

In a statement released by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Soli, the official spokesperson of the Presidency, the public was cautioned against falling prey to AI-generated fake content, fabricated audio recordings, and impersonated websites falsely attributing statements to these revered religious leaders.

“The General Presidency recognizes only those communications disseminated through its official channels. Any other source claiming to represent the Imams or Khateebs is considered illegitimate and misleading,” Sheikh Al-Soli stated.

He added that legal measures will be taken against individuals or groups found guilty of impersonation or spreading misinformation about the Two Holy Mosques and their scholars.

The Presidency reiterated its unwavering commitment to preserving the integrity of religious discourse and protecting the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites. It also urged all Muslims particularly during this sensitive period of increasing digital content manipulation to verify the authenticity of religious content and avoid sharing unverifiable material.

“We must remain vigilant and responsible in the age of artificial intelligence and information warfare,” the statement emphasized.

Inside the Haramain, a trusted platform for verified information from the Holy Mosques, reaffirmed its support for the Presidency’s stance and called on media practitioners and the faithful alike to join in combating misinformation.

For accurate religious guidance and official updates, the public is strongly advised to rely solely on the verified platforms of the General Presidency for Religious Affairs.
