The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation following the death of an 80-year-old Colombian national, Quesada Alfonso, whose body was discovered in his hotel room in the Festac Town area of the state. The discovery was made on Wednesday, and the police were alerted shortly after 3:30 p.m. about the lifeless body found in Room C85 on the 8th floor of the hotel where the deceased had been residing for the past four months.
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin explained that officers, including homicide detectives, were dispatched to the scene to examine the situation. Preliminary findings indicated that there were no signs of violence or foul play on the victim’s body. It was also revealed that Alfonso had been staying at the hotel for an extended period, but no evidence suggested any criminal activity leading to his death.
The police later removed the body and transported it to the Mainland General Hospital morgue in Yaba, where it was preserved for further examination. Hundeyin added that a coroner’s inquest has been initiated as part of the ongoing investigation.
Additionally, some staff members of the hotel were briefly taken into custody due to their failure to maintain proper guest records, but they have since been released as the investigation progresses. The police assured that a thorough inquiry would continue to determine the exact cause of the elderly man’s death.
