Lagos State Cooperative College Holds Second Convocation Ceremony, Graduates 153 Students no by

The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has concluded arrangements to hold its second convocation ceremony, with 153 students set to graduate across various diploma programmes. The three-day event is scheduled to run from May 12 to May 14, 2025, at the college’s campus in Oko-Oba, Agege.

The convocation, which marks another significant milestone in the institution’s growth, will celebrate graduates from the Departments of Microfinance and Enterprise Development, Cooperative Economics and Management, and the Professional Diploma in Economics and Management.

Speaking ahead of the event, Provost of the College, Mr. Akorede Ojomu, stated that the convocation ceremony is not only a celebration of academic excellence but also a demonstration of LASCOCO’s growing impact in technical and cooperative education in Lagos State. He noted that since its maiden convocation in 2022, the college has continued to make steady progress in its academic programmes, infrastructural development, and institutional partnerships.

As part of the activities lined up for the ceremony, a convocation lecture titled “Cooperative Management: Revolutionizing Nano Enterprises in Lagos State” will be delivered by Dr. Dada Olusegun Ayodeji on the opening day, May 12. The second day will feature student and alumni engagement sessions, including networking opportunities and career guidance forums.

The grand finale, holding on May 14, will see the formal award of diplomas to the graduating students. The event will also feature the conferment of honorary fellowships and the unveiling of a new academic building, to be commissioned by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Ojomu also announced the launch of a new nine-month technical training programme, which will commence later this year. The programme, modeled after the curriculum of the City and Guilds of London Institute, will offer certifications in Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Plumbing and Pipefitting, as well as Welding and Fabrication. The initiative is aimed at boosting employability and entrepreneurship among Lagos youths.

He praised the support of the Lagos State Government, particularly under the leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu, for prioritising education and capacity building in alignment with the administration’s THEMES+ development agenda.

With the graduation of 153 students this year, LASCOCO continues to solidify its role as a specialised tertiary institution equipping students with the practical knowledge and skills needed to drive cooperative and enterprise development in the state and beyond.
