Edo State Government Approves Renovation of Burnt Oba Market

The Edo State Government has officially approved the renovation of the Oba Market in Benin City, following the devastating fire that severely damaged parts of the historic market. The decision was announced during a recent State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.

According to the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu, the renovation will involve comprehensive repairs and upgrades to the affected sections of the market as well as improvements to overall infrastructure. The project aims to restore the market’s functionality and accommodate the needs of traders and customers more effectively.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to revitalizing public infrastructure and supporting the growth of local businesses. He highlighted that the rehabilitation of Oba Market is not only important for economic activities but also for preserving Edo State’s rich cultural heritage.

The renovation is expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic development in the area. Traders and community members have expressed optimism that the upgraded market will attract more customers and provide a better trading environment.

The state government has assured that efforts will be made to minimize disruptions during the renovation and that stakeholders will be engaged throughout the process to address any concerns. The successful completion of the Oba Market project is seen as a model for future market redevelopment efforts in Edo State.
