Unilorin Commends JAMB for Honesty and Courage in Handling UTME 2025 Result Crisis

Ilorin, May 15, 2025 — The University of Ilorin has publicly commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its courageous and transparent handling of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result crisis.

In an official letter signed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and addressed to the Registrar of JAMB, the university praised the Board for owning up to the technical errors that affected the results of over 300,000 candidates. The letter described JAMB’s approach as one grounded in “truthfulness,” “integrity,” and “strength of character.”

“We want to put on record the fact that the Board approached the issues that arose on the result with truthfulness and nothing was hidden from the public,” the letter reads. “This approach demonstrated courage, honesty of purpose, integrity, and strength of character.”

Professor Egbewole further noted that while the error originated from one of JAMB’s service providers, the Board did not shift blame, instead taking full responsibility for the mishap. He described this as “an uncommon phenomenon in Nigeria,” and a strong example for the younger generation on accountability in leadership.

The University also expressed pride in Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, who is an alumnus of Unilorin. “Well done, sir. We are indeed very proud of you as our distinguished Alumnus and worthy Ambassador,” the letter stated.

The message concluded with prayers for continued wisdom and grace for Professor Oloyede as he continues his national service.

This heartfelt commendation comes just a day after JAMB held a high-level technical review session in Abuja, where it confirmed that nearly 380,000 candidates were affected by outdated server configurations during the 2025 UTME and would be given the opportunity to retake the exam at no cost.
