Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Man Disguised as Woman in Adamawa Church

The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 19-year-old man, Mohammed Umar, for allegedly disguising as a woman and gaining access to a church in Ngurore, Yola South Local Government Area.

The suspect, a resident of Abuja Road in Yola, was apprehended on Sunday, May 18, 2025, inside the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) premises after a member of the congregation raised an alarm over his suspicious behavior.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement that the alert was made by one Mr. Sunday Andrawus, who reported seeing an unfamiliar person exhibiting suspicious conduct during a service.

“Upon receiving the report, officers from Ngurore Division swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect. He was found dressed in female clothing and loitering within the church premises,” SP Nguroje said.

The motive behind the disguise remains unclear, but the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.

“The Command is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property. We urge members of the public to continue to be vigilant and report suspicious movements,” the police spokesman added.

The incident has sparked public concern, with residents calling for increased security around places of worship in the state.

The suspect remains in custody while investigations are ongoing.
