The Lagos State Government has convened a Public Consultative Forum to engage stakeholders on the Lagos Integrated Electricity Policy, Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), and Strategic Implementation Plan. This initiative is part of the state’s commitment to achieving energy independence and enhancing electricity access for its residents.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, brought together a diverse group of participants, including energy experts, community leaders, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations. The objective was to gather insights and feedback on the proposed policies and plans that aim to transform Lagos into a sustainable energy hub.
Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in shaping the state’s energy future. He highlighted that the Integrated Electricity Policy and IRP are designed to provide a comprehensive roadmap for electricity generation, distribution, and consumption in Lagos.
“Our goal is to develop a resilient and efficient electricity market that meets the growing demands of our population,” Ogunleye stated. “By involving stakeholders in this consultative process, we ensure that our policies are inclusive and reflective of the needs of all Lagosians.”
The Strategic Implementation Plan outlines specific actions and timelines for achieving the objectives set forth in the Integrated Electricity Policy and IRP. It focuses on promoting renewable energy sources, improving grid infrastructure, and fostering private sector participation in the energy sector.
Participants at the forum provided valuable feedback on various aspects of the proposed plans, including regulatory frameworks, investment incentives, and community engagement strategies. The Ministry assured attendees that their contributions would be considered in finalizing the policies and implementation strategies.
This consultative forum aligns with the broader goals of the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024, which empowers the state to regulate its electricity market and pursue energy solutions tailored to its unique challenges and opportunities.
The Lagos State Government remains committed to fostering an inclusive and transparent policymaking process, ensuring that the transition to a sustainable energy future benefits all residents.
