The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially flagged off its 2025 Annual Medical Corps Retreat in Osogbo, Osun State, in a renewed commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery within the Service and to the wider community.
The week-long retreat, which draws medical officers and personnel from Customs medical facilities across the country, aims to review the Service’s healthcare strategies, enhance medical competencies, and foster collaboration among its medical staff. It also includes a series of training sessions, seminars, and health outreach activities designed to improve medical preparedness and promote wellness among officers and their families.
Declaring the event open, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, commended the dedication of the medical corps and reiterated the critical role health plays in operational efficiency. He stated that the retreat would serve as a platform to exchange innovative ideas and reinforce the values of professionalism and compassion in delivering medical services.
“The Medical Corps remains a vital component of our organization. Ensuring the physical and mental well-being of our personnel is essential to the overall success of our national security and revenue-generating responsibilities,” Adeniyi said.
According to him, the retreat would also spotlight key themes including occupational health, emergency response, and preventive care strategies. These areas, he said, are integral to the evolving responsibilities of the Service amid increasing operational demands.
Participants are expected to engage in technical workshops facilitated by medical professionals from within and outside the Service, with a focus on modern trends in healthcare delivery, the integration of digital tools, and the management of chronic and lifestyle diseases.
The 2025 retreat, hosted in partnership with the Osun State Government, also includes a community health outreach programme targeting underserved populations in Osogbo and surrounding areas.
The Customs Medical Corps, established to cater to the health needs of officers and their dependents, continues to play an instrumental role in maintaining a resilient workforce for the Nigeria Customs Service. The retreat is an annual tradition aimed at evaluating progress, addressing emerging health challenges, and setting new goals for improved service delivery.
