A 52-year-old Canada returnee, Morufudeen Idowu, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly assaulting an official of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, after he was cautioned against illegally crossing a major expressway.
The incident occurred when the LAGESC official attempted to enforce state regulations discouraging pedestrians from endangering their lives by crossing expressways instead of using pedestrian bridges. According to eyewitnesses, Idowu became aggressive after being stopped and reportedly physically assaulted the officer, prompting his immediate arrest by security operatives stationed nearby.
Confirming the incident, a LAGESC spokesperson stated that the officer sustained minor injuries and has received medical attention. The spokesperson emphasized that the law applies equally to all residents and returnees, adding that the agency will not tolerate attacks on its personnel.
Morufudeen Idowu is currently in police custody and may face charges related to assault, obstruction of lawful duty, and endangering public safety.
The state government has since reiterated its call for residents to utilize pedestrian bridges and comply with environmental and safety laws to reduce accidents and ensure orderly conduct.
