In a bold push to transform Nigeria’s technical education landscape, Dr. Olodo of the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC) Orozo has commended the latest NABTEB-led initiative, describing it as a game-changer for the nation’s youth.
Speaking during a capacity-building session at the college, Dr. Olodo highlighted that the programme equips Nigerian youths with hands-on, industry-relevant skills—a necessary shift from the traditional focus on paper qualifications to real-world technical competencies.
“This is more than a curriculum update. It’s a shift from paper qualifications to practical skills that fight unemployment and drive productivity,” Dr. Olodo said.
The initiative, backed by NABTEB and supported by the Bank of Industry (BOI), offers participants trade-specific training such as solar installation, tailoring, and welding, among others. Upon successful completion, students are placed based on aptitude and examination scores, and provided with starter packs and access to BOI loans to launch micro-enterprises.
Tagged #SkillsForTheFuture and #EducationReform, the programme is being hailed as a strategic step in aligning education with labour market demands, tackling youth unemployment, and fostering innovation across key sectors.
