Nigerian Armed Forces Secure Six Medals at African Military Boxing Championship in Morocco

The Nigerian Armed Forces have once again demonstrated their fighting spirit on the international stage, clinching a total of six medals — two silver and four bronze — at the recently concluded 6th African Military Boxing Championship held in Rabat, Morocco. The competition, which drew top military boxing talents from across the continent, ran for several days and featured intense bouts across various weight categories.

Nigeria’s contingent, made up of skilled boxers drawn from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, battled fiercely against some of Africa’s best, including teams from host nation Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Cameroon, and Tunisia. Despite facing tough opposition and a highly competitive atmosphere, the Nigerian team held their own, with several fighters making it through to the semifinals and finals.

According to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the team’s commendable performance reflects the Armed Forces’ commitment to excellence not only in national security but also in international sports engagements. The Nigerian fighters showed resilience, discipline, and tactical brilliance throughout the championship, earning praise from fans and officials alike.

The two silver medals were secured after closely contested final bouts that saw Nigerian boxers narrowly edged out by their Moroccan and Algerian opponents. Meanwhile, four other team members reached the semifinals in their respective weight classes, ultimately claiming bronze medals after valiant efforts in the ring.

Military boxing is not only a show of physical strength but also a platform for promoting unity, mental discipline, and regional cooperation among African nations. The annual championship is organized under the auspices of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), which aims to foster friendship through sports within the military community.

Nigeria’s participation in the 6th edition further reinforces its active role in international military sports, having previously recorded notable performances in taekwondo, athletics, and other combat sports. The Director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating that preparations will be intensified ahead of future competitions to ensure Nigeria remains a strong force in military sports across Africa.

As the championship draws to a close, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have not only returned home with medals but also with valuable experience and heightened motivation to strive for gold in subsequent editions. Their achievements in Morocco serve as a testament to the nation’s growing prowess in military sports and the enduring spirit of Nigerian servicemen and women.
