MTN Empowers Out-of-School Youths with Coding Skills at Lagos Vocational Centre

Lagos, June 23, 2025 – MTN Nigeria has concluded its annual employee volunteer programme, Y’ello Care, at the Rotary Vocational Training Centre (RVTC) in Igbogbo, with a strong focus on youth empowerment through digital literacy. The three-day initiative, held in partnership with the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, provided foundational coding lessons to out-of-school youths and equipped the centre with essential resources.

The programme, which is part of MTN’s broader corporate social responsibility drive, engaged young participants in practical sessions designed to spark interest in technology and digital innovation. MTN staff, serving as volunteers, mentored the beneficiaries in introductory programming skills, exposing them to opportunities in the tech space that could enhance their future employability.

In addition to the training sessions, MTN staff also donated various educational and ICT materials to support the ongoing learning efforts at the RVTC. These included computer systems, internet access equipment, learning aids, and consumables aimed at improving the quality of instruction and access to digital tools at the centre.

Speaking during the event, representatives of MTN reiterated the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and creating inclusive growth opportunities for underserved communities. They emphasised that empowering young people with technology skills is critical to Nigeria’s economic transformation and social development.

Officials from the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, who partnered in the execution of the programme, commended MTN for its consistent support towards educational advancement and community development. They noted that such collaborations were vital to complement government efforts in reaching vulnerable populations.

The Y’ello Care initiative, which runs annually across MTN’s operational locations, is designed to encourage employee volunteering in projects that deliver measurable impact in local communities. This year’s focus on digital inclusion and youth development reflects the company’s alignment with global goals for inclusive and equitable education.

With the conclusion of this year’s Lagos leg of the Y’ello Care programme, several of the participating youths expressed renewed hope and interest in pursuing careers in technology, marking another step forward in MTN’s mission to connect and empower Nigerians through innovation and shared value.
