NSCDC Nabs Four Over Transformer Theft in Ondo

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested four individuals suspected of vandalising and stealing a power transformer in the state.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, DSC Aidamenbor Daniel, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and swift response by the command’s operatives.

The suspects were reportedly caught while attempting to cart away parts of the transformer from a government installation in Akure, the state capital.

Speaking on the development, the State Commandant, Dr. Olayinka Olatundun, said the arrest was part of the Corps’ renewed efforts to clamp down on economic saboteurs and protect critical national assets.

He explained that the transformer, which had recently been repaired and reconnected to the grid, was already powering the area before it was tampered with by the suspects.

“The suspects were caught red-handed in the act of dismantling and moving parts of the transformer. Their arrest is a clear warning to vandals and criminal elements that Ondo State is not a safe haven for sabotage,” Dr. Olatundun stated.

He added that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as possible.

The NSCDC Commandant also urged communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around government infrastructure to security agencies for prompt action.
