Lagos, Nigeria – July 7, 2025
In a landmark move to deepen awareness and promote alternative dispute resolution within government institutions, the Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse (LMDC) has officially flagged off its maiden MDA Sensitisation Programme at the Lagos State Public Service Office, Alausa.
The initiative, which targets Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the state, aims to institutionalise the use of mediation and other non-litigious mechanisms for resolving disputes, especially those involving government entities and the public.
Speaking at the launch, the Director of LMDC, Mrs. Adeyinka Adeyemi, explained that the sensitisation is part of the agency’s commitment to fostering a just, speedy, and cost-effective dispute resolution culture within the public sector. She emphasized the importance of proactive engagement and collaboration between MDAs and the LMDC to avoid lengthy court processes that often burden both government and citizens.
“The objective is to reduce the number of government-related cases clogging the courts and encourage a shift toward amicable resolution mechanisms. When MDAs adopt mediation as a first response, the outcomes are often faster, less expensive, and more sustainable,” Mrs. Adeyemi noted.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Kemi George, commended the LMDC for the forward-thinking initiative, describing it as a “timely step toward effective public service delivery and institutional efficiency.”
Participants from various MDAs welcomed the programme and expressed optimism about the potential to enhance service delivery, manage internal conflicts, and improve public trust.
The sensitisation programme is expected to move across other major government offices in the coming weeks, marking a new chapter in Lagos State’s commitment to justice reform and public sector innovation.
