APC Chieftain Dismisses ADC Coalition as ‘Gang of Strange Bedfellows’

July 10, 2025 | Abuja, Nigeria — A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its recent political coalition, describing the alliance as “a gathering of strange bedfellows without shared ideology.”

The APC stalwart, who made the remarks in Abuja on Tuesday, argued that the ADC-led coalition lacks coherence and genuine political strategy, insisting that it is merely a reactionary alliance driven by personal ambition rather than a clear development agenda.

“This coalition is nothing more than a gang of strange bedfellows — an opportunistic alliance with no common ground, no policy blueprint, and no realistic path to power,” he said. “Nigerians are too politically aware to be swayed by such gimmicks.”

The ADC recently announced a coalition with several smaller political parties and civil society groups, claiming it was a “strategic merger” aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling APC and the opposition PDP in the 2027 general elections.

In response, the APC chieftain mocked the coalition’s makeup, suggesting it was populated by political figures rejected by the electorate and seeking relevance through alignment.

“Any political coalition without shared values, coherent leadership, or grassroots support is bound to collapse under its own contradictions,” he said.

While the ADC maintains that the coalition is a step toward building a “third force,” critics argue that it lacks the structure, funding, and political momentum needed to mount a serious electoral challenge.

Observers say the heated exchanges highlight the intensifying political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties begin to realign and position themselves in response to President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms and national discourse.
