Governor Umo Eno Approves Over N1.1 Billion for Major Upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport

In a decisive move to strengthen aviation infrastructure and improve service delivery in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno has approved the release of N1.194 billion for the comprehensive upgrade of critical facilities at the Victor Attah International Airport.

This development was confirmed through official government communication, indicating that the fund will be directed toward a total overhaul of key infrastructure within the airport. The intervention is aimed at positioning the airport for enhanced operational efficiency, safety, and improved passenger experience.

According to government sources, the approved sum will cover the renovation and modernization of existing systems, including terminal facilities, runway maintenance, and other essential aviation components that are vital to the airport’s performance and regulatory compliance.

Governor Eno, who has continued to prioritise infrastructural development across strategic sectors of the state, noted that the airport plays a central role in Akwa Ibom’s economic vision—especially as the state continues to build its reputation as a regional aviation hub with Ibom Air leading the charge in commercial aviation.

The Victor Attah International Airport, which serves as a critical gateway to the state, has witnessed increased traffic in recent years. The administration believes that a timely overhaul of its facilities will not only meet current demands but also prepare the airport to handle future growth in line with international standards.

Stakeholders in the aviation and transport sectors have applauded the governor’s timely decision, describing it as a proactive step toward ensuring safety, reliability, and sustained development within the state’s transport ecosystem.

The upgrade is expected to commence shortly, with the state government assuring residents and travellers that minimal disruption will be experienced during the implementation phase.
