FirstBank has unveiled an advanced facial biometric solution on its FirstMobile app, designed to strengthen security and simplify user onboarding for Nigerians and diaspora customers alike. The new feature allows customers to register and activate the app using facial recognition, supported by anti‑spoof detection to guard against identity fraud
The upgrade is especially helpful for users who lack physical bank cards—such as new customers, Nigerians abroad, and those whose cards are lost, expired, or otherwise inaccessible. By authenticating with their face, users can securely access essential banking functions including fund transfers and bill payments without the hassle of card-linked activation
FirstMobile now also offers virtual credit cards for safe online shopping, instant card activation inside the app, and salary advance facilities repayable over three months. These enhancements are part of FirstBank’s broader strategy to deliver a seamless, rapid, and reliable digital banking experience both at home and abroad
Chukwuma Ezirim, Group Executive in charge of E-business and Retail Products at FirstBank, remarked that the biometric onboarding and related innovations will significantly elevate customer satisfaction. He stressed the bank’s commitment to innovation and user convenience, underscoring their goal of building lasting relationships through stress‑free, accessible banking services
By integrating facial biometric authentication and added digital conveniences into FirstMobile, FirstBank is reinforcing its position as a leader in digital banking, setting new standards for security and ease of use across Nigeria and West Africa
