Bahrain Unveils National AI Policy and GCC Ethical Guidelines under MCICT Leadership

Under the directives of His Excellency General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information Technology and Communication (MCICT), Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has formally launched the National Policy for the Use of Artificial Intelligence, alongside the adoption of the Guiding Manual on the Ethics of AI Use issued by the GCC Ministerial Committee for eGovernment

Hosted online at iga.gov.bh, the policy sets a comprehensive governance framework to oversee AI deployment across the Kingdom. It aligns with national priorities, ethical standards, and international obligations, ensuring AI fuels sustainable public and private sector growth under fair, transparent rules

At the unveiling, iGA Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed underlined that the framework emphasises responsible and secure AI use as a driver of economic and social advancement, while boosting governmental efficiency in sectors tied to Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The policy’s core principles echo values such as transparency, accountability, inclusivity, human oversight, privacy, fairness, and sustainability—all central to the GCC-wide ethics guidelines

This dual initiative follows related efforts: iGA’s AI Talent Program, launched in June 2025, is training Bahraini ICT students in innovation and AI-based prototype development; whilst recent workshops have upskilled staff in generative AI tools to lift employee productivity across directorates

Taken together, these moves mark a bold phase in Bahrain’s AI journey—anchoring both governance structures and human capital development. They reflect the country’s resolve to adopt cutting‑edge technologies without compromising ethical standards, supporting public-private collaboration and driving digital transformation in tune with Vision 2030.
