The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a revision of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, revealing an improvement in candidates’ performance across Nigeria.
According to WAEC, the pass rate in the five core subjects — English Language, Mathematics, and three others relevant to candidates’ fields of study — has risen to 62.96%, up from the initial 59.8% announced in July.
WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, explained that the adjustment followed a comprehensive post-release verification and error correction process, which addressed anomalies in grading and data collation. He noted that the review was in line with WAEC’s commitment to accuracy, fairness, and transparency in the assessment process.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the upward revision, describing it as a morale booster for students, parents, and schools ahead of the next academic calendar. Analysts say the improvement underscores the need for enhanced teaching methods and early examination preparation to sustain higher success rates.
The 2025 WASSCE, conducted between May and June, had over 1.6 million registered candidates across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
