TETFund Allocates N1.6 Trillion for Nationwide Tertiary Education Interventions, Medical Training, and Student Loans

Abuja, August 11, 2025

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced the allocation of ₦1.6 trillion to bolster tertiary education across Nigeria, with funding earmarked for infrastructural projects, medical training programmes, and the newly established student loan scheme.

Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja, stating that the intervention aims to improve learning facilities, expand research capacity, and strengthen specialized training in the health sector. According to him, part of the fund will be used to equip medical schools, enhance teaching hospitals, and provide grants for cutting-edge research in critical areas of national development.

Echono emphasized that the allocation aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education, which prioritizes human capital development as a driver of economic growth. He added that the student loan scheme will ensure wider access to higher education, enabling underprivileged students to pursue their academic goals without financial barriers.

The TETFund boss further revealed that the projects will be monitored to ensure transparency and accountability, with periodic reports made available to stakeholders.
