Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has called for the creation of a Nigerian Air Force base in the state to strengthen security and enhance military presence in the North-West region.
Governor Idris made the appeal during a meeting with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, where he stressed that establishing the base would help curb banditry, cattle rustling, and other forms of criminality affecting parts of Kebbi and neighboring states.
He noted that Kebbi’s strategic location, sharing borders with Niger Republic and several Nigerian states, makes it vital for the Nigerian Air Force to have a permanent operational base in the area. According to him, the presence of the base would not only improve aerial surveillance but also facilitate rapid response to security threats in the region.
Air Marshal Abubakar assured the governor that the request would be given due consideration, acknowledging the security challenges faced in the state and the need for enhanced military infrastructure.
Governor Idris expressed optimism that the Federal Government would support the move, saying it would significantly boost security, safeguard livelihoods, and create a safer environment for socio-economic development.
