Pakistan Turns 78, Throws a Patriotic Party with a Side of Reflection

Islamabad, Pakistan — August 15, 2025 | Pakistan marked its 78th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday with a blend of patriotic celebration and sober reflection on the vision that birthed the nation in 1947.

From flag-raising ceremonies and colourful parades to cultural showcases and prayers for peace, the day was filled with displays of national pride. Leaders and historians revisited Pakistan’s founding mission — to serve as a homeland for Muslims and protect their identity, rights, and heritage amidst growing marginalisation in pre-partition India.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his national address, called for unity, economic resilience, and an unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and self-determination, echoing the determination of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s generation.

Against the backdrop of rising anti-Muslim sentiment in parts of India, officials stressed that Pakistan’s creation still stands as a strategic and cultural safeguard for its people.

Festivities drew strong youth participation, with events aimed at deepening intergenerational understanding of the country’s history. As night fell, illuminated landmarks, dazzling fireworks, and heartfelt tributes to independence heroes wrapped up the day’s celebrations.
