Khan Younis, Gaza Strip — An Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis killed at least 20 people, including five journalists, according to Gaza health officials and confirmed by multiple international news outlets.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the incident as a “tragic mishap” and said the military is conducting an investigation. “Israel’s war is against Hamas,” he said, adding that his government “values the work of journalists, medical staff, and all civilians.”

The journalists killed were identified in early reports as Hussam al-Masri (Reuters contractor), Mariam Abu Dagga (AP freelancer), Mohammad Salama (Al Jazeera), Moaz Abu Taha, and Ahmed Abu Aziz. Several others, including first responders, were wounded. Eyewitnesses reported that a second strike followed the initial blast, though this has not been independently verified.

International organisations and governments voiced shock and condemnation, urging an impartial investigation and renewed calls for the protection of civilians and media workers in conflict zones.

Editor’s note: Casualty figures remain preliminary and may be updated as authorities complete identification and investigations continue.
