Shettima: Nigeria, Colombia Set for New Chapter in Diplomatic Relations

September 1, 2025 – Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that the three-day high-level engagements between Nigeria and Colombia will mark the beginning of a fresh chapter in the diplomatic and economic relations of both nations.

Speaking during the bilateral sessions, Shettima noted that Nigeria and Colombia are not only united by shared interests but also by the deeper call of humanity and a common future. He stressed that the interactions would lay the groundwork for stronger cooperation in trade, investment, security, education, and cultural exchange.

According to the Vice President, the renewed ties come at a time when Nigeria is seeking to expand its global partnerships in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said Colombia’s experience in agriculture, security reforms, and sustainable development could provide valuable lessons for Nigeria, while Nigeria’s vast market and human capital offer unique opportunities for Colombia.

Diplomatic observers believe the engagements could strengthen South-South cooperation, diversify Nigeria’s international partnerships, and boost opportunities for citizens of both countries.
