The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has launched a self-service enrollment portal to make it easier for Nigerians to register and access health insurance coverage online.
The new platform, unveiled in Abuja, is designed to simplify enrollment processes, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and expand access to affordable healthcare across the country. According to NHIA officials, the portal will enable individuals and families to sign up for health insurance plans, update personal information, and make premium payments without visiting physical offices.
The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the health sector and meet the goal of enrolling 44 million Nigerians into health insurance by 2030. NHIA emphasized that the digital rollout aligns with global best practices and leverages technology to improve transparency and service delivery.
Stakeholders, including healthcare providers and civil society groups, have lauded the innovation, describing it as a milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward universal health coverage.
Officials assured that the platform is secure, user-friendly, and accessible nationwide, with dedicated customer support for enrollees. The portal is expected to significantly boost participation in the national insurance scheme and reduce out-of-pocket spending on healthcare.
