Residents of Governors’ Road in the Ikotun area of Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State, have raised strong complaints against Ikeja Electric following a power outage that has lasted for more than ten days.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Emmanuel Joseph, Chairman of Igando Peace Estate Phase IV Community Development Association, said the blackout has paralysed businesses and disrupted daily life.
“This prolonged blackout has caused untold hardship to households and businesses, forcing residents to spend heavily on fuel and other alternative power sources,” Joseph said in a statement on Wednesday.
The residents accused Ikeja Electric of failing to provide clear communication on the cause of the outage or a restoration timeline. They also expressed concern about the safety of transformers, cables, and other electrical facilities in the community.
One resident lamented: “We have been using pure water to cook and buying extra fuel just to pump water for bathing. It is financially draining.”
In its response, Ikeja Electric attributed the disruption to a faulty transformer at the Oke Afa injection substation, which has affected all 11 kV feeders in the area. The company stated that about 90 percent of its customers have been impacted and assured that restoration efforts are underway.
