The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, has presented welfare cheques to families of police officers who died in the line of duty.
The support, drawn from the Inspector General of Police Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes, is aimed at easing the financial burden on bereaved families. According to the state command, the presentation was conducted in Uyo, with beneficiaries receiving payments approved by the Nigeria Police Force.
Commissioner Azare commended Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for sustaining the initiative, noting that the funds would serve as a vital support system for families of the fallen officers.
While reports indicate that the total sum disbursed stands at ₦46,995,139.32, earlier records in July placed the amount at ₦37,280,296.36 for 33 families, suggesting either additional disbursements or updated figures. The command has not yet provided a full breakdown of beneficiaries in the latest exercise.
