Saudi Arabia Welcomes Recognition of Palestine by UK, Australia, Canada, and Portugal

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia | September 22, 2025

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has welcomed the decision by the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Portugal to formally recognise the State of Palestine, describing it as a significant step towards advancing peace in the Middle East.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the recognition reflects the firm commitment of friendly nations to supporting the peace process and strengthening efforts toward achieving a two-state solution in line with relevant international resolutions.

“Such recognition underscores the seriousness of these countries in pushing for a just and lasting solution that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” the statement read.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its long-standing position on the Palestinian cause, stressing that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital remains the cornerstone for achieving regional stability and security.

The Kingdom further urged the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts to halt hostilities and create an enabling environment for renewed peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine.

The move by the four countries adds momentum to global calls for a fair resolution of the conflict, particularly at a time of heightened regional tensions and humanitarian concerns in Palestinian territories.
