Sokoto distributes drugs, kits worth N1.66bn to PHCs

The Sokoto State Government has spent N1.66 billion on essential drugs and Mama Kits, which have been distributed to 244 Primary Health Centres across the state’s 23 local government areas.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu disclosed this on Wednesday during the distribution ceremony at the Government House, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare, especially for women, children, and vulnerable groups.

He emphasised that healthcare remains a top priority, stating, “A healthy society is a wealthy society.”

“The N1.66 billion was allocated for the purchase of essential drugs, maternal and child health medications, including anti-helminthic and hematinic drugs. Others include Misoprostol, chlorhexidine gel, and Mama delivery kits,” he said

Aliyu noted that the free healthcare program introduced by former Governor Aliyu Wamakko had been sustained, ensuring that pregnant women, children, and the elderly receive medical services at no cost.

“The program has led to increased antenatal care attendance and a reduction in maternal mortality rates across the state,” he added.

However, the governor warned local government officials and healthcare workers against diverting the medical supplies, vowing that anyone caught sabotaging the initiative would face severe consequences

He also called on security agencies to ensure that the drugs reach the intended beneficiaries, urging residents to support government policies aimed at improving healthcare access at the grassroots level.
