Abia APC Dismisses Kalu’s Endorsement of LP’s Governor Otti

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, describing the lawmaker’s actions as personal and not reflective of the party’s position. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Acting Publicity Secretary Sterling Urakpa emphasized that Kalu’s endorsement of the Labour Party (LP)-led administration was not sanctioned by the APC.

The party asserted that Kalu’s praise of the Governor contradicted the APC’s stance on governance in the state. Urakpa reiterated that the visit was a personal engagement and did not represent the party’s endorsement of the LP government. He further criticized the current administration, citing unresolved conflicts of interest, lack of transparency, and undisclosed project costs and contract details.

The APC also referenced a statement made by State Chairman Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu during the launch of the Renewed Hope Partners in Bende Local Government Area on May 28, 2025, to reinforce its position. The party warned against political fraternization and emphasized that no member should use support for President Bola Tinubu as a pretext to gain personal political favor or undermine the party’s principles.

Urakpa urged party executives at the ward and local government levels, particularly in Kalu’s and Senator Chris Adighije’s constituencies, to remain vigilant and uphold the party’s integrity. He affirmed the APC’s commitment to internal discipline and a unified front aimed at reclaiming power in Abia.

The acting spokesman also appealed to the people of Abia to critically assess the current administration’s performance, suggesting that public applause for Governor Otti’s government was misplaced. He encouraged Abians to compare their state’s performance with others, implying that the fanfare surrounding the LP government highlighted what had been lost under its leadership. “Abians deserve more than clapping with one hand,” he concluded.
