Abuja, Nigeria – June 11, 2025
The Federal Government has officially renamed the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC) in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in recognition of his contributions to national development and infrastructure revitalization.
The renaming ceremony, which took place during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated facility, was attended by top government officials, dignitaries, and stakeholders in the public infrastructure sector.
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustainable public asset management. He emphasized that all users of the upgraded facility must now pay for its use, stating that “public resources must be maintained through responsible management, not free access.”
He noted that the new policy would ensure the Conference Centre is self-sustaining, reduce dependence on federal subventions, and serve as a model for managing other national assets.
The facility, a key venue for national and international events, has undergone extensive refurbishment as part of the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) renewal project under the supervision of Minister Nyesom Wike.
The move to rename the AICC after President Tinubu has drawn mixed reactions, with supporters praising it as a deserved honour, while critics argue that national monuments should remain apolitical.
