The change in nomenclature was recently announced alongside a policy directive mandating that all users of the facility must henceforth pay for its usage, regardless of status or affiliation.
The move, which has drawn widespread attention, reflects the Federal Government’s ongoing push toward fiscal responsibility and the monetisation of public infrastructure for sustainable maintenance. President Tinubu is said to have personally endorsed the policy, emphasizing that the era of indiscriminate or free use of public venues—especially ones of such national importance—is over.
The newly christened President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre has long been a central venue for high-level events, hosting diplomatic summits, national conferences, state banquets, and major private-sector forums. With its renaming, it not only bears the identity of Nigeria’s sitting president but also signals a shift toward greater administrative discipline in the management of public assets.
Government officials have clarified that the directive to pay for use applies to ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), as well as private individuals and corporate organisations.
