ACF Condemns Premature 2027 Election Campaigns, Urges Focus on Governance

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has strongly condemned politicians for embarking on early campaigns for the 2027 general elections, urging them to focus on addressing Nigeria’s pressing issues instead.

Speaking at the ACF’s National Executive Committee meeting in Kaduna, Chairman Mamman Mike Osuman emphasized that governance should take precedence over electioneering, given the country’s current socio-economic challenges. These include widespread hunger, insecurity, and economic hardship, which have significantly impacted the lives of Nigerians.

Osuman highlighted recent terror attacks and killings in regions like Plateau, Edo, and Borno states, underscoring the need for concerted efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens.

He also noted the high cost of living, poor healthcare, and expensive transportation as critical issues that require immediate attention. The ACF’s stance reflects a broader concern that premature political campaigns distract from these urgent problems, which must be addressed to improve the quality of life for Nigerians.

Furthermore, the ACF’s call aligns with the need for politicians to adhere to guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which generally discourage early campaigning to prevent undue influence and maintain electoral integrity. By urging politicians to prioritize governance over electioneering, the ACF aims to ensure that leaders focus on solving the nation’s pressing challenges rather than engaging in premature political maneuvering.
